Kennedy Middle School was designed in 1968 by John Portman. The original design featured open air atriums, open classroom plan and was unique in that the building houses both school related and community related functions. The renovation of the school consisted of changing the open classrooms to individual classrooms to achieve a better learning environment. The school was modified to meet the current standards for Middle Schools including labs, classroom size, etc. The HVAC system was replaced with a new water source heat pump and DDC Controls. The natatorium was modified to improve ventilation
