This facility is essentially an aircraft hangar with powerful fans and related mechanical systems that direct and filter airborne paint residue and collect and contain liquid wastes. As an airplane painting and corrosion-control facility at the airport, it is the latest in a growing number of such projects built around the country by aircraft manufacturers and commercial airlines to meet strict environmental controls on containment of solvents and paints during paint-stripping and repainting of aircraft. Strict government requirements are driving the push for effective designs both in the US and overseas. The facility has won an award from the Consulting Engineering Council for Superior Design.
