This parking facility was designed to accommodate 938 BellSouth employees and MARTA patrons commuting from the northern area of Atlanta, GA. The project was developed under BellSouth/MARTA design restrictions and criteria. This influenced the floor-to-floor heights and parking space requirements. The facility is located adjacent to the existing Doraville MARTA parking structure and station. One of the site restrictions consisted of a 24″ water pipe located through the center of the site. Another restriction was the presence of existing underground utilities and overhead electrical power lines. The square foot area of the site also constricted the building footprint. This design team solved this problem through utilizing the height limitation of the zoned area. The design concept for the project was to serve as an “interceptor” for BellSouth employees. This allows BellSouth employees to be able to conduct business within the confines of the business center while parking in a remote, secure parking structure. The parking facility consists of eight story precast concrete structure and integral business center. This project is the tallest building located within the city limits of Doraville. The design takes advantage of the height requirement and stands as a visual tower for the termination of the north-south MARTA rail line. J. W.
